BJJ Basics: In this instructional we tried to sweep our partner. After they lean away to avoid the sweep we apply the Omo Plata. If our partner attempts to avoid the Omo Plata we have an excellent opportunity to attack with the Triangle Choke.

BJJ Basics: Choke with Over Hook to Elevator Sweep

Posted Posted in Submissions, Submissions from Guard, Sweeps, Sweeps from Closed Guard

BJJ Basics: In today’s video we are adding on to a previous video where we attacked our partner with a lapel choke and an over hook. In today’s work our partner stifled our choke by using their free hand to foul the completion of the choke. When they commit their free hand to defend the choke we take that opportunity to sweep them with the Elevator Sweep. If they were to post their free hand to stop the sweep you would just finish the choke. Additionally, we can do this sweep by itself by just checking their free arm with an over hook, under hook or by using wrist control.

BJJ Basics: Genie Lock From Threatened Triangle Attack

Posted Posted in arm bar, BJJ Self Defense, Submissions, Submissions from Guard

BJJ Basics: In today’s video we are adding on to a previous video where we attacked our partner with a Triangle Choke. In this instance our partner stalled our attack by grabbing our pants/thigh in an endeavor to maintain some space between their neck, their own shoulder and our thigh. Therefore we chose to transition to a Genie lock (aka reverse armbar, cutting armbar, inverse armbar, etc, etc…) while maintaining the triangle leg configuration. Our goal is to either capitalize on their shifted focus to defending the triangle to give us a high percentage attack with the Genie lock and/or to distract them with that attack as another way to finish the triangle.
